Labour forecastingWe have developed novel approaches to predicting labour demand from existing data, and to developing new, improved data collection and analysis techniques. These techniques allow us to predict the labour demand by trade and region to a level of accuracy significantly better than any other approach. The results have been embedded in CITB’s award winning labour forecasting tool (LFT), developed, designed and delivered by WLC Ltd.
The LFT can predict the labour requirements for any type of project in each of 28 occupational groups on a month-by-month and trade-by-trade basis given no more than the start and end dates of the project, its location and its value. It can be used to evaluate community benefits associated with construction projects as well as targeted recruitment and training. It can also predict the number of jobs created by the occupier of a building after construction is complete. We have undertaken more than 20 local area skills analyses across the UK. We have developed and seek to continually improve a methodology for better understanding the volume of construction activity in a defined geographical area and from that estimate the future labour and skills requirements.
The LFT was highly commended at the CIOB International Research and Innovation Awards in 2013. |
