Who we are
Our story
Founded in 2004 as a spin-out from the University of Dundee, Whole Life Consultants Ltd was created to commercialise and extend the research of the Construction Management Research Unit, long recognised among the UK’s leading civil engineering departments. Since then, we have evolved into a consultancy applying world-class research to complex, high-value challenges in the built environment.
Our PhD-qualified, multi-disciplinary team spans civil, mechanical, environmental, social, computational, and other specialist engineering and scientific fields. Working at the intersection of construction strategy, labour forecasting, cost modelling, and sustainability, we turn intricate questions into clear, evidence-based solutions—combining academic depth with professional expertise.
Trusted by national agencies, major infrastructure programmes, and local authorities, we are known for translating advanced methodologies into practical strategies that shape policy, secure investment, and optimise outcomes.

Meet our expert team
Academic Excellence, Industry Expertise, Policy Impact.
The strength of WLC lies in the depth of our people.
With many decades of combined experience, a substantial portfolio of both national and international commissions, and research projects collectively valued at over £12 million, our consultants-all holding PhD or post-doctoral qualifications-are recognised well beyond client work.
We publish peer-reviewed research, review for leading research councils, supervise doctoral students; and serve on influential bodies such as the CITB National Council and the Department for Business and Trade’s Construction Industry Statistics Committee, shaping policy on skills, employment, modern methods of construction, and net-zero delivery.
Bridging academia and industry, several of our directors have held senior executive roles—including managing-director positions—within leading construction firms and across the wider third sector. This breadth of experience ensures our advice is grounded in rigorous research and enriched by first-hand insight into how construction companies operate and succeed.
