Following her recent reference to WLC Ltd’s work in the Scottish Parliament, Heather Anderson MSP visited our Dundee office to continue the conversation around the workforce and skills needed to support future investment across Dundee and Tayside.
Our work, estimating the workforce required to retrofit Dundee provided the starting point for a broader discussion about the region’s future.
The conversation focused on a strategic question: how do plans for housing, regeneration, infrastructure, net zero and economic development translate into the people and skills needed to deliver them?
WLC Ltd’s work helps connect policy and investment ambition with practical delivery. By looking at the public and private project pipeline alongside the workforce and skills already available, it is possible to understand where the future demand will grow, where skills gaps and workforce pressures may emerge, and where investment could create opportunities for new jobs, new skills and economic growth.
This is an approach WLC Ltd has applied across major programmes and regions elsewhere in the UK. It has helped public bodies, employers and education providers understand future workforce demand and make more informed decisions around recruitment, training and skills development.
Tayside Built Environment Forum
The discussion also covered plans for a Tayside Built Environment Forum, bringing together organisations involved in shaping and delivering the region’s built environment to share evidence, identify common challenges and better understand the opportunities ahead.
The visit reflected a wider role for workforce intelligence in regional economic planning: connecting investment, skills and delivery so that ambitions for Dundee and Tayside can be understood not only in terms of projects, but in terms of the people, capability and economic opportunity they can create.
