Professor Malcolm Horner, Chairman

Malcolm Horner is a co-founder and Chair of Whole Life Consultants Ltd, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland. He is Emeritus Professor of Engineering Management at the University of Dundee where he led the Construction Management Research Unit in the Division of Civil Engineering. The Construction Management Research Unit successfully completed research projects to a value in excess of £5m and published some 200 academic and professional papers. He is a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College, past Chairman of Scottish Enterprise Tayside, past Member of the CITB’s National Council and past Chairman of CITB’s Technical Reference Group. He has been a non-executive director of a number of public and private sector organisations in a variety of social and commercial fields. His principal areas of interest are labour productivity and cost modeling, management and control.
Dr Mohamed El-Haram, Managing Director

Mohamed (Mo) El-Haram is a co-founder and Managing Director of Whole Life Consultants Ltd and an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Dundee. His first degree is in Industrial Engineering and his PhD from Exeter University addressed issues related to Engineering Management. He has 20 years industrial experience and more than 16 years academic experience. He is a visiting lecturer at Zagreb University. Mohamed has delivered professional skills training in whole life costing for National Training Academy for Rail (NTAR). He is co-author of more than 60 conference and journal papers and co-author of a book in in the field of logistic support. His expertise encompasses Research Methods, Sustainability Assessment, Whole Life Costing, Integrated Logistics Support, Risk Based Asset Management, the procurement of PFI/PPP contracts and skills and employment forecasting. His expertise is both technical and managerial and he has experience in various industries including oil & gas and construction. He has a deep understanding of life cycle costing and its application and led the development of the uniquely powerful WLC Evaluator software. Mohamed was Project Director of a €400,000 EU-funded project to transfer knowledge in sustainability assessment amongst six partner EU countries.
Professor Saša Marenjak, Director

Saša Marenjak is a co-founder and Director of Whole Life Consultants Ltd and a full Professor teaching at the Universities of Osijek and Zagreb, Faculty of Civil Engineering. He has specialist expertise in the strategic planning and Project Management of PFI/PPP projects including whole life costing, payment and performance mechanisms, data collection and contract administration. He is a Member of the Team of Specialists for Public Private Partnership of The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), a Member of the Association of Project Managers and the International Project Funding Association (IPFA). He has 11 years’ industrial experience and some 13 years of research experience.
Dr Doug Forbes, Director

Doug Forbes is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. His areas of expertise include skills and employment forecasting, labour productivity in construction and sustainability assessment of the built environment in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. He also has experience in whole life costing and risk management. Doug was responsible for developing on behalf of the Construction Industry Training Board the award winning Labour Forecasting Tool. His PhD, undertaken in the Construction Management Research Unit at the University of Dundee, examined the risks associated with the sustainability assessment of housing. He has extensive experience in managing development, research and consultancy projects. He has been the project manager for a €400,000 EU-funded project to transfer knowledge in sustainability assessment amongst six partner countries, and more recently a £108,000 Innovate UK feasibility study. He has a concurrent position as an honorary research fellow at the University of Dundee.
Davide Vitali, Research analyst

Davide Vitali holds a MEng in architectural engineering from the University of Brescia (Italy), and is currently completing a PhD in geotechnical engineering at the University of Dundee. He has worked as a professional project manager as well as a researcher, and has highly developed skills in problem solving, particularly in the areas of data analysis.
James Sutherland, Software Developer

James Sutherland has been a software developer and system administrator for more than a decade after studying Computer Science at Cambridge University. He has worked for Dundee and Heriot-Watt Universities on a variety of research projects and internal infrastructure and at the University of Abertay Dundee as lecturer, as well as working with the telecommunications industry and regulator on Internet access charging, and instigating the FRIACO interconnect product in conjunction with MCI. He is currently completing a PhD at the University of Abertay, Dundee in computer hardware security.
